Course Summary
This course addresses constructivist theories of learning and how these theories apply to research. The focus is on how theory, research, and practice can improve learning and teaching. Constructivist principles guide course development (see program syllabus). The goals of this course primarily address Unit outcomes # 1, 4, and 5 stressing the importance to being committed to children, engaging in scholarship, creating new knowledge and being members of learning communities. This course’s content and organization are planned to support the Program’s commitment to prepare educational professionals focused on pupil learning and development and the Program Themes: TeacherResearcher, Learner-centeredPractitioner, and ProfessionalLearner.

NOTE: The research review form will only work for research articles. It will not work well with theoretical articles that do not directly involve a research project. So consider writing a short summary for those just to keep the main ideas and your own questions in your mind.
The research review form is a good "litmus test" to see if what you're reading is a conventional research study or not. If what you're reading can be framed with this sheet, then you're probably reading a research article. But if you're really struggling to find the "research question" and "findings" sections, then you might be reading a theoretical piece OR a less traditional research write-up.
Feel free to invent your own "thinksheet" to frame your readings and post it here. The form I give is just what's worked for me (Caitlin) in the past.

From our discussion of ontology, epistemology, and axiology we created a list of ideas that we saw within the articles that we read or ideas that we ascribe to ourselves:
