Please share any ideas you gals are coming up with to research? Just want to kick around some ideas.
Caitlin's New PageCaitlin: What a great idea, Jon! I hope you all will feel free to think of this as your shared "idea notebook"--great way to test ideas and see how they float. Plus, someone else might be able to point you toward some advice or additional resources.
Cindy: I was looking for info on Action Research and using the website under "Knowledge Base". The one by George Mason University is good but to get to it, use
a "www" with the website given.
Jon: I have decided to do a case study that observes the integration of an intense character education program into the literacy curriculum.
From Caitlin:
Hey everyone! Why don't you put a statement about your research. Don't worry--you can always go back and "edit" on the wiki. So nothing is written in stone (thank goodness for newer technologies, no?) But this way we can use eachother as a resource as we get further in to our work...
Cindy: I want my research to deal with children's reflective journals and how their thoughts will determine specifically if utilizing book buddies is a good thing or not, but I'm having a time finding articles that speak to the topic of children's journals. I can find articles on adults journaling but not much on children. If anyone finds something like that please let me know. Thanks.
Katy: I am going to be looking at how teachers communicate with their classes specifically when they are giving directions for an activity. I will observe in class and transcribe the teacher language. I will be using peer coaching as the framework for discussing teacher practice.
Jon: I have changed the focus of my action research. I am looking at constructivist practices in character education.
Charlotte: My action research is in collaboration with my Southside group. We're all looking at the implementation of Reader's Workshop at different grade levels. I'm teaching a low-ability reading group of 14 students, with the aid of an EIP teacher for 1 hour each day. I'm still not certain about the way it will look. Right now, we're rotating 3 small groups within that hour, so there isn't a very long block of time for independent reading. If any of you have suggestions, I'm ready to listen.
Hi everyone
